So this is Love…

Moving to a new country is hard. It is not for the faint at heart, for those easily drowned out or–most cursedly I imagine–for those without a sense of humor to appreciate the desert-dry comedy that is realizing you left one of America’s finest cities to live in a place where your household water is delivered via a dusty truck and pumped into your personal hole in the ground. The desert dry part of course is when your hole runs dry after your morning bathroom and before your morning shower.

“You must be tenacious!” I tell myself. “You must put yourself out there! It is your authenticity that must be loud and your grit that must not fail you!”

To find your place in a new community requires an openness of mind and a holistic approach to finding friends. Also, community is about being involved first and foremost so I am going to start by attending events, saying yes to invites and hosting themed dinners. (My specialty) I am going to surf, paddle, hike, yoga, paint, write and explore!

“Show up.” is my new mantra–even when the covers are warm and the floor is cold. I will endeavor to expose and challenge my own frailties and as result I have to trust that I will grow and attract the life I desire. I am choosing to persevere because I understand that after the chore of all my unpacking is done…I will soon be in a squeaky clean condo chatting up my cats and dawdling around listlessly if I don’t have a plan. I definitely lean into a more non-linear way of thinking; so I do know that I have a new community and deep friendships that exist on my timeline-I just have yet to meet them.

I am writing to both document my life as a new expat in Mexico and as a way to keep myself accountable. I am focusing on self love and writing out my goals and aspirations daily to set the groundwork for what I know will take every fiber of my being to do–construct a new life from scratch.

As a final thought for this, my 1st post-for our husbands we wives have been known to do much more difficult things than relocating to watch them soar. This blog is about my journey in doing just that, and how I too find (or create) my own wings.
